Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend September 19, 2005 Man arrested after chase Police dog finds suspect hiding in bushes A Central Point man was arrested late Sunday at a Medford elementary school after leading police on a vehicle chase along residential streets. Sam Edward Smith Jr., 32, was lodged in the Jackson County Jail after a Medford police dog located him hiding in a hedge at Hoover Elementary School in the 2300 block of Siskiyou Boulevard. After receiving a report of a reckless driver at about 9:30 p.m., a Medford police officer spotted Smith’s vehicle near Barnett Road. The officer tried to stop the vehicle, prompting Smith to step on the gas pedal and ignore stop signs at several intersections, said Medford police Sgt. Mark Boone. Smith ran from his vehicle after crashing into a fence surrounding the elementary school. Officers established a perimeter and waited for the arrival of their police dog, named Tiko, Boone said. Smith was taken into custody after the canine located him at about 10:30 p.m. Mail Tribune Home  | Local News  | Sports  | Business  | Obituaries  | Life | Opinion AP News | Archives  |  Site Map  | Community  | Classified   Copyright © 1997-2005 Mail Tribune, Inc.
