But the Indians had other ideas. Roseburg used tough serving and strong front-line play to dismantle the second-place Panthers, 25-13, 25-19, 25-15. "We were worried," Roseburg coach Bruce Myers said. "They came in a hot team. Our girls played quite well. We had good defense and passed the ball well. And, of course, we served aggressively." Roseburg (8-1 SOC) served nine aces. More significantly, the Panthers (6-3 SOC) had difficulty passing the Indians’ serve. "(South) had a tough time in serve receive," said Myers. "Their ball handling hurt them because it kept them out of their offense." Advertisement Junior outside Emily Waldron sparked Roseburg with 10 kills, while sophomore middle Kalista Harrison added seven. Middle Nora Burmeister added five kills and had three of the Indians’ 12 blocks. "We came out and did not play with a lot of fire," South Medford coach Adam Wagman said. "They put a lot of pressure on us and we couldn’t match their intensity." ASHLAND 25-28-25, GRANTS PASS 19-26-10 — At Ashland, Ashland moved into a tie for third place at 6-3 in the Southern Oregon Conference standings along with South Medford. Freshman Ruby Stocking served 18-for-18, with three of her four aces coming in Game 1. Stocking totaled six digs. Sophomore Maddison Thivierge led the defense with eight solo blocks and helped offensively with four kills. Setter Lindsey Stone had six kills and 18 assists in the victory. CRATER 22-21-25-29-15, KLAMATH UNION 25-25-12-27-10 — At Central Point, Crissy Best powered home three kills in the deciding game to lead balanced Crater to the wild come-from- behind SOC victory. Best finished with 11 kills, and Kirsten Davis, who had her finest match of the season, chipped in nine. Amanda Pinkala led the Comets with 12 kills, and Haley Hevern notched 11 kills and 36 digs.
