Blood in the back yard of a home in the 2200 block of Crater Lake Avenue on the afternoon of April 14 will be tested by Oregon State Police forensics technicians, Medford police Lt. Mike Moran said. "We’re still working that case," Moran said, adding that he does not know when test results are expected. Despite notifying area hospitals of the reported shooting, police haven’t found a person the boy said he shot during a noon-hour confrontation outside the home, Moran said. Medical facilities are required to contact police when a person seeks treatment for a bullet or stab wound. The 13-year-old boy, a White City resident, told police he shot the intruder after the man pointed a handgun at him. The teen reportedly confronted the trespasser after seeing him trying to break into a travel trailer parked behind the home, police said. The boy, who was alone at the house when the reported shooting occurred, said the intruder ran from the scene after being shot. A police dog was unable to track an escape route. Advertisement Police said they found blood and evidence that a weapon was fired near the travel trailer. The report led to police locking down several nearby schools. The boy’s grandmother said she believes the intruder is the same person who twice before went to her home and vandalized the trailer. The boy described the intruder as a white male about 19 or 20 years old who stands about 6 feet 3 inches with a thin build. At the time of the shooting, he allegedly carried a handgun and wore a white tank top and cut-off jean shorts. Anyone with information about the incident can contact Medford police at 770-4783.
