Stars turn it around, garner title The Stars, a Rogue Valley Youth Hockey Association pee-wee team, made a dramatic turnaround in just one year. The Stars went from a winless campaign in their initial year last season to capturing the state championship this past weekend in Eugene. Stars goalie Eddie Bonelli stopped 26 of 27 shots and Sean Woodring scored the winning goal on a breakaway in the second period as the Stars defeated the Portland Redwings in the championship game. Paul Fraser tallied the first goal of the game for the Stars on a wrist shot off a faceoff in the first period. The Redwings tied the score by the end of the opening stanza. The Stars skated much of the second period short-handed due to penalties, but Bonelli turned away several Redwing opportunities on the power play. The Stars defeated teams from Eugene, Portland and Clackamas to reach the title game. Members of the Stars team are: Bonelli, goalie; Michael Cox, defender; Fraser, defender; Brandon Thomas, defender; Dylan Woodring, forward; Sean Woodring, forward; A.J. Richardson, forward; Evan Figuerado, forward; Robert Hayward, center; Cody Schoonover, center. The Stars are coached by Chris Bonelli and Sue Woodring.
