Habitat for Humanity celebrates Women Build Week May 7 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Apr. 29, 2016 at 11:36 AM Posted Apr. 29, 2016 at 11:36 AM » Social News More than 100 Rogue Valley Habitat for Humanity volunteers and Lowe’s employees will help build affordable houses for two local families on Saturday, May 7, during National Women Build Week. The volunteers will raise the walls of Habitat for Humanity's 58th and 59th houses in the region starting at 10 a.m. at 154 and 158 Mellecker St., Medford. Special guest will be Dee Anne Everson, director of United Way. National Women Build Week invites women to devote at least one day that week to help families build strength, stability and independence through housing. The week is meant to spotlight the homeownership challenges faced by women. The effort is also part of “Home for the Holidays,” a nationwide initiative launched by Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity to work alongside 1,000 families to help them build or repair their homes by December. Lowe’s donated $2 million to Habitat’s 2016 National Women Build Week and will provide the support of employee volunteers. The home improvement chain is also conducting how-to clinics at stores to teach volunteers construction skills. Through the donations of time, materials and money, Rogue Valley Habitat for Humanity has provided housing to 303 Jackson County residents, 190 of those being children.
