No one was injured in the shootout Tuesday night, which sparked after a Jacksonville officer tried to pull Anthony Robert Fogleman over during a routine traffic stop, Oregon State Police said. Fogleman, 37, lead the officer on a 10-mile car chase through the Applegate Valley. The pursuit ended at a long driveway leading to Fogleman's home in the 900 block of Cantrall Road. He left his car and began screaming at Jacksonville police Sgt. Dan Moore, who fired his Taser at Fogleman to no effect. Fogleman then grabbed a handgun from his car and fired at least one shot at the sergeant. Moore returned fire while retreating, Jackson County Sheriff Mike Winters said. Advertisement Fogleman returned to his car and drove to his home and barricaded himself inside with his wife and four children. "We called in a SWAT team and a hostage negotiator," Winters said. "We have dealt with this individual before and knew what we were dealing with." Fogleman hid in his home for nearly an hour before his wife left and approached the officers. She helped them talk Fogleman into surrendering, Winters said. He didn't give up without a fight and forced the deputies to forcibly subdue him, Winters said. Fogleman was charged with attempted aggravated murder, three counts of resisting arrest, first-degree assault and driving under the influence of intoxicants. He remained lodged in the Jackson County Jail late Wednesday on $1 million bail. His wife, Jennifer Lee Fogleman, was arrested the following morning after police searched the couple's house. She was charged with four counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment, four counts of endangering the welfare of a minor and two counts of second-degree child neglect. She remained lodged in jail late Wednesday on $44,000 bail. The couple's four children, ranging in ages 2 to 16, were taken into state custody. Winters said information on the charges against her would be released soon. Moore, a 12-year Jacksonville police veteran, was put on paid leave, a normal procedure in officer-involved shootings.
