Deborah Sue Clark Russell Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 1, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Oct. 1, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News Deborah Sue Clark Russell (Debbie) Deborah (Debbie) Sue Clark Russell passed away peacefully, Sunday, September 20, 2015 at home, surrounded by her family. Debbie fought a courageous eight-month battle with lung cancer. She was tough as nails and never complained once. She was incredibly touched and forever thankful for the love and support shown to her and her family by her community. Debbie was born in Boise, Idaho April 24, 1951, the daughter of the late Richard and Aleda Clark. After graduating from South Salem High School, Debbie headed to Oregon State University, where she loved being a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. Debbie met Robert (Bob) Russell her junior year and they were married the summer she graduated from Oregon State University, August 3, 1974. Bob and Debbie were lifelong Beaver Fans and never passed up a good tailgater. Bob and Debbie settled in Portland where she was a bookkeeper for the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Portland, Ore. for over 20 years and co-founded a small in-home business with her dear friend Joni Upsher. Debbie always said that her proudest accomplishments were her children: Kristen, Erica, and Scott. Erica and her husband Joe Vitellaro blessed Debbie with two beautiful grandchildren, Nicolas and Jayda, who gave her endless joy. Debbie considered herself shy and never liked to be the center of attention, but she was always one to help. Debbie enjoyed being an active volunteer for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital. She was a proud member of the Eagle Point Women’s Club and the Multnomah Athletic Club. Debbie loved life and never wanted to miss an opportunity to be with her family or to have fun. Trips to Australia, China, Japan, Mexico, the Caribbean, and Hawaii were among her favorites. In June of 2005, Bob and Debbie bought the historic 1872 water-powered Butte Creek Mill in Eagle Point, Oregon. Needless to say, it was a major lifestyle change. Eagle Point embraced Debbie and vice-versa. Debbie always said the best part of having the Mill was meeting so many wonderful people who visited the Mill from all over the world. Debbie touched countless people with her love, compassion, and selflessness. She always gave everything her best shot and always said she wouldn’t change a thing. She loved her life and treated her friends like family and her family like friends, living her life with dignity, grace, and always a smile. In addition to her precious children and grandchildren, Debbie is survived by her beloved husband, Bob; brother, Rick Clark; her Uncle Don and Marsha Clark; her cousins; and countless friends. In lieu of flowers, the community of Eagle Point has created a fund to establish “Debbie’s Garden.” This will be a serene garden with beautiful benches for sitting, taking a break, and enjoying life.
