Craig Strong tossed a four-hit shutout in the opener to lead the Pirates (8-3, 4-2 Skyline) to a 13-0 victory. Josh Lorton allowed two hits in the 11-0 triumph in Game 2. Both contests were five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. In Game 1, Phoenix took advantage of four Illinois Valley errors and benefited from eight walks and three hit batsmen. Robert Woodward went 2-for-3 with four runs and two RBIs, Dustin Smith had a key two-run single during a six-run second inning and Strong struck out 10 while walking one on just 63 pitches. Advertisement Lorton fanned seven and walked none in the nightcap. Smith (two runs and two RBIs) and Chad Walker (two runs and three RBIs) each went 3-for-3, and Ryan Harvey posted two hits and a run. The Pirates were also errorless for the third straight game. Illinois Valley fell to 0-8 in conference play.
