Central Ave., Medford. Eight people will share their stories one-on-one with participants in 30-minute segments on a first-come, first-served basis in a program offered by Rogue Community College. The human "books" to check out are: • “The Adventures of a Potawatomi Indian Educator” — David West, Native American Studies coordinator at Southern Oregon University, will offer insight into historical perspectives and contemporary Native American issues. • "Long Sleeves: Self Injury, a Healing Journey" — Paja Russell is willing to roll up her sleeves, show her scars and offer an unflinching look at living, healing and dealing with self injury. • "Women in Leadership" — Teresa Rivenes, dean at Rogue Community College, will talk about the challenges women face in leadership and key characteristics to succeed. • “But Will It Be on My Permanent Record?” — Kirk Gibson will talk about his rebellious past and how he landed in a 32-year-long career in the very system he vowed to beat. • "My Life So Far" — Aldon Newsome, 71, will share his experiences of being raised by a share cropper in Bastrop, La., his career of picking cotton, and his becoming a student in his later years. • “Goat Trails”: Genna Southworth, dean of RCC's School of Health & Public Service, has worked in eight distinct industries and will talk about how goat trails led her to her career paths. • "My Husband was a Stalker": Sydney Wilder will talk about her experiences with her violent, unpredictable husband, who was the first to be charged with stalking after a new law was passed by the Oregon Legislature in 1997. • "Marathon Woman: Overcoming Obstacles from a Runner’s Perspective": Laura Kimberly, Medford branch library manager, has run over 26 marathons and three ultramarathons. She will discuss how running has helped her overcome an eating disorder and medical issues and improved her quality of life.
