Eagle Point names Hedrick head coach EAGLE POINT - Harry Hedrick was named head football coach at Eagle Point High School, the athletic office announced on Friday. Hedrick, a Southern California native and most recently athletic director and head football coach at Ontario High School in Eastern Oregon, brings 22 years of coaching experience to the Eagles. He replaces Mike Johnston, who resigned after 10 seasons at the helm. Eagle Point was 40-59 under Johnston, including 2-7 last year. Hedrick coached collegiately for eight years - at the NCAA Division I, I-AA and II levels and in the NAIA - and in the preps for 14 seasons. During his playing days, he was an All-American wide receiver at California Lutheran University, which twice played for the national championship while he was in the fold. He went on to coach wide receivers at Idaho State University. While he was there in 1981, the Bengals led the nation in passing and won the NCAA Division I-AA national title. Hedrick began his high school coaching career in 1988 as the offensive coordinator at Caldwell High in Idaho. During his four years there, the school was in the state finals three times. In 1992, Hedrick was hired by Ontario, and the next year, the Tigers were in the state playoffs. He took six of 10 teams to state. Last season, Ontario went undefeated to win the Greater Oregon Conference. It dropped two non-conference games, then won eight straight before losing to Junction City, 24-14 in its second state playoff game to finish 8-3. The week before, the Tigers routed Molalla, 54-14. Hedrick and his wife, Barbara, have a son, Casey, who will be a senior next year, and a daughter, Erin, who will enter the sixth grade.
