Arenas wins championship LENEXA, Kan. Bulldog boxer Lorenzo Arenas took home the 12-13-year-old, 201-plus division championship Saturday at the National Silver Gloves Championships. Arenas, who was the only finals victor from Region 7, punished Robert Crutcher, of Smryna, Tenn., landing a majority of his right-hand deliveries and sending him to the canvass with a solid left hook. It was the second title for Arenas, who took home the Junior Golden Gloves championship in the summer of 1999. Also advancing to the finals but coming up short for the Bulldogs was Lorenzo Rios Jr. Rios (14-15, 125 pounds) lost a close fight to Weston Ferguson, of Flint, Mich., when the bout was stopped late in the final round. Rios suffered a bloodied nose in the third round and, after two visits by the fight doctor, couldnt contain the bleeding causing a stoppage by the referee.   Mail Tribune Home | Ottaway Newspapers, Inc. | Dow Jones & Co., Inc. | Privacy | Contact Us Copyright 2001 Mail Tribune, Inc.
