Child care providers must prove training Listings on Web The Job Council's Child Care Resource Network has announced that families now may request child care on the Internet at www.jobcouncil.org . The agency maintains a database of more than 500 child-care providers, day-care centers and after-school programs, and assisted nearly 2,000 families last year who were seeking child care referrals in Jackson and Josephine counties. Beginning today, all in-home family child care providers seeking new registration with the Oregon Child Care Division must prove they have completed specific training before they register. The new rules cover all providers who care for more than three children from more than one family, not counting the provider's own children. Providers caring for fewer than three children are exempt from registration. The new requirements, adopted by the 199 Legislature, require that, before registration, in-home child care providers must: Attend a two-hour information session called "Child Care Overviews." Free sessions are scheduled at The Job Council Career Center, 688 Market St., Medford, on Oct. 20, Nov. 17 and Dec. 15. All are from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Attend a two-hour training called "Recognizing and Reporting Child Abuse." A free session is scheduled from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Dec. 9 at The Job Council Career Center. Two more sessions are sponsored by Portland State University on Oct. 6 in Grants Pass and Nov. 11 in Medford. To register for those sessions, call 1-800-547-8887, extension 8532. Obtain and document current first aid and pediatric CPR certifications. A class that provides both certifications is available for $25. Sessions are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 23, Nov. 6 and Jan. 15 at The Job Council. A limited number of $15 scholarships are available to new providers. Individuals may pick up a manual to study from the health department and take the exam given there. Cards cost $10 and are valid for three years. Document attending eight hours of training by the date of the provider's next registration (in two years). The trainings listed above do not count toward the eight hours.
