Mail Tribune 100, Aug. 7, 1922 By Alissa Corman Aug 07, 2022 12:00 AM A A News from 100 years ago The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Aug. 7, 1922 ASHLAND HOTEL PROPOSITION IS ON TAP AGAIN Ashland, Aug. 7. — H. G. Enders, Dr. Swedenburg, Fred Homes, Tom Simpson, Bert Greer, Frank Jordan, and Chas. Pierce are a committee appointed by the chamber of commerce to negotiate with the Huckenbury System regarding the building of a hotel and sanitarium here on a foundation as managed by that syndicate. Enders is chairman of the committee. In response to a request, it is expected that the promoters will send a representative here at an early date to investigate the situation. In the event of actual building operations, local parties will have to finance the project to a great extent. It is reported that Jesse Winburn has signified an intention of investing $20,000 in the deal, others being in sight with liberal pledges. RAPID PROGRESS IS BEING MADE ON COUNTY FAIR The directors of the Jackson County Fair association will meet on Wednesday evening of this week to consider the many details of the fair to be held in September. The building program is proceeding ahead of schedule. The publicity committee has their work well in hand. The premium book is ready for distribution. The superintendents of various divisions are active in getting good exhibits. The auto race and the running race programs will be published within a few days and other attractions are being provided so that the prospects are that the greatest fair ever held in Oregon, excepting only the state fair, will take place in Jackson County next month. The many requests for space on the grounds for exhibits and concessions will be sold within the next ten days and inside of a week the fair association building committee will erect the pavilion for the automobile show according to the size necessary to accommodate the exhibit of dealers who have signed up to make displays. The entries in the stock division already received assure the success of a big stock showing. A double automobile hangar has already been erected next to the permanent stock building to take care of exhibits that cannot be placed in the regular quarters.
