Tipoff against Columbia (24-10) is at 4 p.m. Pacific, with live television coverage on the CBS Sports Network. Young, a 6-foot-2 senior guard, needs two rebounds in the CIT final to become the first player in UC Irvine history to record 1,000 points, 500 rebounds and 500 assists in a career. Young, who was the Class 4A state player of the year when he led Phoenix to the 2011 state title, already owns the UCI record for assists (570 and counting). “It's crazy it's all done after tomorrow night,” Young said Monday of his stellar career. “I've done all I can for the program and to represent Southern Oregon.” In his third season as a team captain for the Anteaters (28-9), Young is averaging 10.5 points, 4.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 1.4 steals in a balanced lineup guided by sixth-year head coach Russell Turner. He had 11 points and eight rebounds on Sunday to help lead UC Irvine to a 66-47 semifinal win at host Coastal Carolina. The Anteaters, who have already set single-season school records for overall wins and road wins, will be playing in their fourth road game of the tournament after also earning narrow wins over North Dakota (89-86 in overtime) and Louisiana (67-66). In the Ivy League Lions, UC Irvine faces a team that is one of the nation’s best in terms of productivity beyond the arc. Columbia has been reliant on the 3-point shot this season with 44.7 percent of its attempts coming from beyond the arc. The long ball comprises 38.2 percent of its total points, which is 16th in the nation, and the Lions’ 302 makes are 21st highest in the NCAA. In addition, their 9.6 makes per game put them 16th in that category. For UC Irvine, Luke Nelson leads the squad at 13.7 points per game to go with 3.9 assists, while fellow junior Mamadou Ndiaye, a 7-6 center, averages 12.1 points, 7.2 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per game.
