The Challengers persevered, however, posting a 38-33 victory at Superior Gym to remain in the league playoff hunt. St. Mary’s Brittany Farrer started off hot, scoring all seven Crusader points in the first quarter. When Cascade Christian slowed her down, Kelly Walden took over, tallying five points in the second quarter and eight in the third. "As we adjusted our defense," said Challengers coach Loren King, "Pete (Zappas, the St. Mary’s coach) adjusted his offense." The Challengers had an answer in the fourth quarter. Leading 36-33, they played stall ball. "We just pulled the ball out and sat on it," said King. "We said, ‘If you want it, you have to come out after it.’" Cascade Christian played keepaway until Rusti Mosser was fouled and made two free throws for the final margin. Hannah Gettman scored 10 points for the Challengers, including two big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Cascade Christian (11-10, 5-6 SCL) entered the game tied for fourth place in league but faces the top three teams to close the season. Four advance to the playoffs. Cara Teterud sparked the Challengers’ defense, particularly when she rotated to help out on Farrer. Walden finished with 15 points and Farrer 13 as only three Crusaders hit the scoring column. ST.
