Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Sep. 15, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Sep. 15, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Sept. 15, 1915 FRANKIE EDWARDS MANAGER OF NEW PUGILISTIC WONDER Frankie Edwards, the erstwhile Medford impresario who discovered Bud Anderson and launched him on his short but brilliant career, has discovered a new world beater, Bobby Waugh, "the walloping Wop" of Texas, who gave Battling Nelson a first class drubbing September 6 at Juarez. Frankie now claims Shreveport, La., as his abiding place, but still longs for the Rogue River valley and hopes to make Medford his future home, and to give lovers of the manly art a chance to see the game as of old. PHONE LINE TO CRATER COMPLETED Superintendent Will G. Steel of the Crater Lake National Park returned from the lake Wednesday and reported that the telephone line connecting Medford with the superintendent's headquarters has been completed and that it is now possible to telephone to the park from this city. Snow and rain have fallen at the lake, slight flurries of snow, which melted as soon as it fell and showers which benefited the roads and made traveling better. Sunny weather again prevails. Up to September 14, the total tourist travel at the park totaled 10,463 against 6,579 the year previous. The number of autos registered totaled 2,064 against 1,193 in 1914. VIM AND VIGOR MARKS WORK IN PUBLIC SCHOOLS With every department thoroughly organized, the elementary schools throughout the city as well as the high school began their regular classwork Tuesday morning. The regular movements of classes from room to room would indicate that the school had been in session for a month rather than a day. The enrollment of high school students last week enabled the faculty to complete the organization before the opening of school, thus gaining one day over previous years. Slight changes were made in some of the departments, including those departments in vocational training. The commercial department has undergone some changes seeking to make the student more efficient for service when graduating from this course.
