Arrest made in double murder in Josephine County Comment By Melissa McRobbie Grants Pass Daily Courier MailTribune.com By Melissa McRobbie Grants Pass Daily Courier Posted Jun. 16, 2015 at 12:11 PM Updated Jun 16, 2015 at 4:57 PM By Melissa McRobbie Grants Pass Daily Courier Posted Jun. 16, 2015 at 12:11 PM Updated Jun 16, 2015 at 4:57 PM » Social News A double murder in the Colonial Valley area north of Grants Pass Monday afternoon stemmed from a home-invasion robbery, according to Oregon State Police. The victims were identified by OSP as 75-year-old Jerry Jackson and 73-year-old Joann Jackson. The Jacksons lived at 298 Space View Drive, a small dead-end street off Horseshoe Drive. Police arrived at the scene shortly before 3:30 p.m. and found the Jacksons’ bodies. Police say the suspect in the murders, 28-year-old Brian Killian, stole the victims’ Chrysler PT Cruiser and fled. The car was seen driving the wrong way on Interstate 5 before Killian was taken into custody near the Merlin landfill. Witnesses said there was a scuffle and bystanders helped subdue him. Killian is being held in the Josephine County Jail on eight counts of aggravated murder, as well as charges of robbery, burglary, theft, unauthorized use of a vehicle, attempted auto theft, unlawful use of a weapon, reckless driving, reckless endangerment and animal abuse. A post on the Josephine County Shelter Friends Facebook page stated that one dog was killed, another was injured and a third was unhurt in the incident. OSP Lt. Bill Fugate said the details of the killings are still being sorted out, but that there is no indication the victims knew Killian. On Tuesday morning, Space View Drive was cordoned off as OSP and the Josephine County Major Crimes Team continued their investigation. The area just a few miles north of Grants Pass is forested, and the Jacksons’ driveway slopes down off of the narrow street. Neighbor Richard Flores said there are only four houses on Space View Drive and each property contains at least a couple of acres. He said the neighbors know each other, but not extremely well. “We’re kind of isolated,” he said. “We’re on a hill and the rest of the valley kind of goes around us, and it’s a one-way street.” He was stunned by the double murder, calling it “totally unexpected.” He said the neighborhood doesn’t see much crime, although his mail has been stolen a few times. Ken Selig, co-founder of the neighborhood group North Valley Community Watch, was also taken aback by Monday’s events. “Colonial Valley’s been hit pretty good with burglaries and stuff like that recently, but not home invasions,” he said. Killian, the suspect, was sentenced to nearly six years in prison in 2008 for using pepper spray to rob an Abby’s Pizza delivery driver in October 2007. His criminal history in Josephine County includes 2006 convictions for eluding an officer and theft.
