Steven Thomas McNamee, 40, of the 1200 block of South Pacific Highway, Talent, was arraigned in Jackson County Circuit Court Friday on felony charges of first-degree burglary and second-degree assault. He was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on more than $1 million bail. The victim, who lives in the 900 block of Harmony Lane, Ashland, called police at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, and said he had been assaulted, according to Ashland police Deputy Chief Warren Hensman. McNamee was an acquaintance of the victim. Hensman said the apartment door was unlocked, but the victim didn't open the door for McNamee. “It wasn’t a forced entry, but he did enter the home without permission,” Hensman said. The victim struggled with McNamee for a period of "several seconds" before the assailant fled the home. The victim sustained minor injuries. "He was not treated at the hospital, but he did receive injuries," Hensman said. No items were stolen in the incident. Hensman explained that the burglary charge was added because McNamee entered the victim's residence without permission. "To enter somebody's home and commit a felony crime, that's burglary," Hensman said. Ashland police detectives arrested McNamee Thursday at a residence on Williamsburg Circle in Medford.
