The Sting finished regionals 6-2. The national tournament begins Aug. 2 in Clovis, Calif. Southern Oregon, which played four games on Sunday, lost to the Seattle Saints, 9-6, in the final contest. A win would have put the Sting into the championship game. The Saints scored six runs in the first inning — highlighted by a grand slam home run — and held off a late rally for the win. In the first game of the day, Jenni Bittle struck out 10 and allowed just two hits during Southern Oregon’s 2-1 victory over the Havoc, of Washington. Advertisement The Sting then rode the arm of Laura Jones for a 1-0 win over the Eastside Elite and followed with a 3-2 victory over the Diamond Dusters Red. Jones fanned nine and gave up just three hits against Eastside Elite, while Bittle, Tyler Sutherland and Shannon Richardson each had two hits in the triumph over Diamond Dusters Red. Southern Oregon bounced back from its first loss on Saturday — a 6-4 defeat to the Diamond Dusters — with a 1-0 win over Portland’s Strictly Softball. Allesha Spradling, Jill Artoff, Bittle and Richardson had two hits apiece in the loss, while Kristiann Kinsman and Sutherland each went 2-for-3 in Saturday’s win.
