At around 4 p.m. an employee at Main Building Supply in downtown Rogue River found the bag at the corner of Broadway and Main streets, Rogue River Police Chief Ken Lewis said. "The man thought the bag looked suspicious and he walked across the street to the police station and reported it," Lewis said. Officers would find threatening words written on the bag, prompting them to call the Oregon State Police bomb squad. "Written on the bag was something like 'Today is a good day to die,' " Lewis added. Advertisement Police then barricaded a 12-block area, keeping people away from downtown. The bomb squad deployed a robot that picked up the bag and drove it to a containment trailer, which would protect the city from an explosion, Lewis said. "I don't know where they took it from there, but I know they were waiting for another bomb squad officer to come down from Salem," Lewis said. At around 6:20 p.m. the officers took down the barricades. Traffic was again able to move through the town and people could return to their homes. Rogue River police have not named any suspects, but one Main Building Supply employee told them she waited on three "weird individuals" right before the bag was found. Lewis said many people waiting behind the barricades were speculating about the bag. In addition, Rogue River police were assisted by the Jackson County Sheriff's Department "We're glad everything worked out," Lewis said. "You just never know about these things."
