No vehicles Fire danger prompts officials to ban motors in Prescott Park Prescott Park east of Medford has been closed to motorized traffic because of the high risk of fire danger. Visitors can still hike or ride horses into the park, which at 1,740 acres is the city's largest recreation area. But visitors must park their vehicles outside the city gates. Gwendolyn Scott of the Medford Parks and Recreation Department said the closure comes after the state forester declared an extreme fire danger in Jackson and Josephine counties. The park is mainly a wildland area, and it has only one road into it. "If something were to happen on the north and east side, you couldn't get out fast enough," Scott said. It is the first time the park has been closed since 1996, Scott said. Anyone with questions may contact the parks department at 774-2400.
