The event will be accompanied by a Fun Run and Farm Fest and all proceeds will support Rogue Valley Farm to School. Festivities begin Friday evening with a pre-race dinner at Emigrant Lake that is open to the community. Taj Indian Cuisine is providing the meal at a venue overlooking the kayak course. Racers will also be able to drop off their kayaks to be ready for race day morning. Tickets for the meal are available online at siskiyouchallenge.org . The Siskiyou Challenge begins and ends at ScienceWorks Hands-On Museum, 1500 E. Main St. Race day starts at 7:15 a.m. with a costume contest, then a 7:30 a.m. race meeting to introduce the course, race rules, safety tips for the course and any last minute updates. Racers will leave ScienceWorks with a police escort at 8 a.m. The Challenge has six legs: 13K cycle from ScienceWorks to Emigrant Lake. 3K kayak on Emigrant Lake flat using kayaks or paddle boards. 30K cycle from Emigrant Lake to Lithia Park's swim reservoir. 9K run on trails above Lithia Park. 13K mountain bike on trails above Ashland. 6K run from Lithia Park to ScienceWorks. For those with somewhat less athletic inclinations, a 1-mile fun run begins at 10 a.m., with registration starting at 9 a.m. Registration for the Fun Run is $5 for children, $10 for adults or $20 for a family, and includes free entry to ScienceWorks. Race registration entry fees are tax-deductible as donations to support Rogue Valley Farm to School. The day's events will include the Farm Fest, with live music from Hamfist and hands-on activities provided by Rogue Valley Farm to School, Bee Girl and Thrive. Race awards and a drawing for an Upper Klamath River rafting trip will take place at 1:30 p.m. Rogue Valley Farm to School educates children about the food system through hands-on farm and garden programs, and by increasing the use of local foods in school meals.
