Challengers find a way to hold off Lost River Despite a rough night from the free-throw line, the Cascade Christian High girls basketball team found a way to hold off Lost River on Friday. Cascade Christian jumped out early to a 10-4 lead but buckled under a 17-8 run by Lost River to trail at the break. Cascade Christian surged ahead for good with a 14-7 advantage in the third period. "It was a pretty hard-fought game," said Cascade Christian coach Loren King. "We started well but had a little bit of a drought a couple of times during the game. "We held on, though, and made a great game for the fans." Kristin Salamone and Whitney Brookins each scored 12 points to lead the Challengers, who improved to 14-3 overall and 3-1 in the SCL. Sophomore post Sarah Matthews sparked the Loggers with 12 points and nine rebounds, while Rawley and sophomore point guard Brianna Smeltz each added 11 points. Smeltz also had six steals.
