CRIME Man charged with stealing Ginger Rogers estate jewelry from employer Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jan. 21, 2015 at 1:14 PM Updated Jan 21, 2015 at 1:41 PM Posted Jan. 21, 2015 at 1:14 PM Updated Jan 21, 2015 at 1:41 PM » Social News Jackson County sheriff's deputies Tuesday arrested a 57-year-old transient on theft charges after a ruby necklace that once belonged to Ginger Rogers turned up at a Medford pawn shop. The chain and pendant featuring a crab representing the zodiac sign of Cancer and a ruby was part of Rogers' estate and was purchased by a local man at an auction, the sheriff's department news release said. He reported it stolen on Monday. Deputies later found it at Alexander's Coin and Stamp Shop, 425 E.Main St., Medford, where Paul Michael Pedder had allegedly sold it for $424.37. The necklace is valued at $1,200 to $1,500, investigators said. A probable cause affidavit filed in Jackson County Circuit Court says Pedder had been hired by the victim for general labor at his house on Table Rock Road. After Pedder left on Friday, the victim noticed the necklace was missing from the room where he had been working. The affidavit says Pedder admitted to selling the necklace when confronted by deputies. Pedder was arrested on two counts of first-degree theft and charges of second-degree theft and a parole violation for first-degree burglary. He was lodged in the jail, where he remains today on $40,000 bail. — Thomas Moriarty MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jan. 21, 2015 at 1:14 PM Updated Jan 21, 2015 at 1:41 PM » Comment or view comments Reader Reaction » STAY INFORMED Email NewsLetter Sign Up Today Sign up for our newsletter and have the top headlines from your community delivered right to your inbox.
