Mixup kept candidate out of forum Jackson County election candidates debated the issues and each other during an Applegate Valley Community Forum last week in Ruch. But the discussion didn't include Medford City Councilman John Michaels, an independent who filed for county commissioner position No. 2. Michaels, who did not attend the event, said he didn't know about the debate because he wasn't invited. Jack Duggan, chairman of the Applegate forum, said he attempted to contact Michaels by phone before the debate. A technical problem with the phone number Michaels provided to the elections office prevented Duggan from making contact. But Duggan said he'll be sure to invite Michaels to the next debate hosted by the Applegate forum. That event is set to take place after the May primary election. Michaels won't be running in the primary because only major party candidates are included. Incumbent Ric Holt, a Republican, has filed for position No. 2 along with Democrat and Central Point City Councilman Dave Gilmour and Walt Fitzgerald, a rancher and county watchdog.
