STATE PARKS New state trail designations sought Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Sep. 28, 2015 at 10:43 AM Posted Sep. 28, 2015 at 10:43 AM » Social News If you would like to see your favorite hiking trail recognized by the state, applications are being accepted now for Oregon's state-designated trails list. By recognizing outstanding trails, the state program strives to promote them to residents and tourists. The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department reported in a news release that the state's Recreation Trails Advisory Council will take nominations for state-designated, non-motorized trails through Nov. 30 . Department officials are seeking routes for two types of designations: scenic and regional. Both must be on public right of way and mostly complete. Scenic trails must be at least a mile long and provide access to "outstanding scenery and lasting memories for trail users," the agency said in the news release. Sterling Gulch Mine Trail in Jackson County has this designation. Regional trails must be longer than five miles and provide recreation while connecting communities, schools or recreation sites, the agency reported. The Bear Creek Greenway has this designation. Nomination forms can be found in the Oregon Recreation Trails Designation Program handbook.
