Foundation honors Hensley for his service to health care Valley Medical Center Foundation has announced that Richard F. Hensley is the 2000 recipient of the A.S.V. Carpenter Distinguished Citizen Award. The award will be presented May 19 at the 16th annual Carpenter Award Dinner. The Carpenter Award is given each year to a person who exemplifies outstanding volunteerism and philanthropic leadership to charitable health-related institutions in the Rogue Valley. Hensley has a long history of service to the health care community in Southern Oregon. He served as chairman of the boards of Rogue Valley Medical Center, Rogue Valley Health Services and Health Future Inc. He served as interim president and CEO of RVMC in 1991. Hensley also served on the boards of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, the Pacific Institute of Natural Science, as a trustee and vice president of the Oregon Community Foundation and as director for Oregon Advocates for the Arts. He was president of the Oregon State Board of Higher Education, a trustee of the Oregon State University Foundation, and a commissioner for the Western Interstate Commission on Higher Education. His service in Jackson County includes the Rogue Valley Foundation), Medford/Jackson County Chamber of Commerce, Vision 1980 Committee. He was honored as first citizen of Medford in 1986, as a Paul Harris Fellow of Rotary International in 1987 and as Associated Oregon Industries Business Leader of the Year in 1988.
