Spencer Deane Gray Tuesday Oct 18, 2016 at 2:00 AM Spencer Deane Gray, 37, beloved son of Paul and Debra Gray, passed away October 9, 2016, after a long battle against brain cancer. Spencer was born in Evanston, Wyo. in 1979 and moved to southern Oregon in 1987. He attended North Medford High School and Southern Oregon University. In August of 2011, Spencer moved to Boulder, Colo. where he was employed as a web designer/senior front end developer at Mapleton Hill Media. He returned to southern Oregon September 30, 2016. Spencer's passion was cycling. He was an accomplished bike racer who rode for the Cycle Analysis and Etna/DeSalvo teams in southern Oregon, and for Sonic Boom Racing in Colorado. He is locally renowned for his prowess at time trials, for his love of outrageously long and difficult rides full of mountain passes and panoramic views, and for his inordinate number of flat tires. Spencer is survived by his parents. He will be deeply missed by parents, grandmother, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. We will find him someday already at the top of the mountain, likely working on patching a flat tire, and waiting patiently for the rest of us to catch up. Spencer requested that there be no funeral. Friends are planning a cycling/camping event in his memory sometime soon. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made either to southstatecycling.org or to Josephine County Search and Rescue.
