According to a Medford Police Department news release, a Medford police officer joined an Oregon State Police trooper in pursuit of a white 2010 Dodge Avenger around 10:58 a.m. just west of the I-5 off-ramp on Highway 62. Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said the trooper had tried to stop the car. Another Medford officer continued the pursuit onto Table Rock Road after seeing the car drop off two passengers in the parking lot of Natural Grocers on North Pacific Highway.  Budreau said that the passengers told police that the driver, Jordan Krawczyk, had been driving at a high rate of speed before the pursuit began. Police had to discontinue the pursuit several times for safety concerns. "It's just not worth the risk," Budreau said. "We would rather try to arrest him some other way, some other time." Budreau said that in most pursuits, the driver will eventually bail from the car and try to switch vehicles to avoid police attention. "What was unique here, even when there were no officers in pursuit of the vehicle, he continued to drive erratically and through areas where there were police," he said. Budreau said that Medford police ended up having to use all available officers to block intersections to contain the pursuit. Police made several unsuccessful attempts to stop the car using spike strips, which resulted in the spikes damaging tires of two uninvolved vehicles, the release said. Police said that at one point, the car narrowly missed striking a Medford patrol car on a dead-end street. Krawczyk was finally arrested around 12:33 p.m. after he allegedly bailed from the car on Glenwood Street off Highway 99 in Phoenix. Budreau said the police department will pay for new tires for the two vehicles that were accidentally damaged. "We're actually in the process of taking care of that right now," he said. "It may already be done." Krawczyk is being booked in the Jackson County Jail on charges of attempted second-degree assault, two counts of attempting to elude a police officer, reckless driving, two counts of recklessly endangering, resisting arrest and a parole violation for a second-degree assault conviction. Other charges may be added by other agencies. "The car's not stolen — we contacted the registered owner and he advised that he loaned it to Krawczyk," Budreau said. Court records show Krawczyk has numerous prior felony convictions in Jackson County ranging from third-degree assault to unlawful use of a vehicle.
