Board hires new principals Medford schools are getting two new principals, both familiar to the school district. The Medford School Board Tuesday authorized the hiring of Gold Beach School principal Pam Jones as principal of Jefferson Elementary School, and McLoughlin Middle School language arts teacher Pam Zaklan as principal of Wilson Elementary School. Wilson Principal Joani Bristol will move into the principal's office at Roosevelt. The positions result from retirements and transfers. Hoover Elementary Principal Ed Nicholson and Griffin Creek Principal John Patterson are retiring at the end of the school year. Jones and Zaklan were among eight finalists for the two positions. Jones was the media specialist at Jefferson before moving to Gold Beach a couple of years ago to take over as principal of a kindergarten-grade eight school. Zaklan has had many jobs around the Medford district, from data processing in the administration office to executive secretary to elementary school teacher. Bristol has been principal at Wilson for seven years and requested the move to Roosevelt. School board member Joe Frodsham noted the importance of the administrative appointments. "Principals set the tone for a school," he said. Mail Tribune Copyright The Mail Tribune 1999, Medford, Oregon USA
