Medford to have cooling shelters during heat wave Updated: Jul 22, 2022 05:15 PM A A Shelters will be open Monday through Friday, when triple digits are expected The city of Medford has declared a severe weather event ahead of the coming heat wave, and is working with multiple nonprofits and community organizations to give locals cool public places to beat the heat. Cooling shelters operated in partnership with ACCESS, the American Red Cross, Jackson County libraries and First Presbyterian Church will be open from noon to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, July 25-29, according to a news advisory from the city. The cooling shelters will offer water, restrooms, ice pops and snacks for people, as well as a cooling area with water for pets. Individuals are free to come and go as they please during shelter hours. On different days, the shelter will be at First Presbyterian Church Medford, at 85 S. Holly St., and the Medford library, 205 S. Central Ave. The schedule is as follows: Monday, July 25: First Presbyterian Church Tuesday, July 26: Medford library Wednesday, July 27: Medford library Thursday, July 28: Medford library Friday, July 29: First Presbyterian Church On those days, the National Weather Service predicts the temperature will top 100 degrees, according to an earlier news report .
