Booming bats lift Crater to 9-0, 16-3 wins over Pirates PREP ROUNDUP CENTRAL POINT -- Crater continued its early season offensive prowess Tuesday afternoon as the Comets pounded visiting Marshfield twice, 9-0 and 16-3, at Anhorn Field in non-conference baseball. The Comets slugged 24 hits in just 10 turns at the plate and scored 25 runs as they improved to 3-0. The second game was limited to five innings due to the 10-run rule. "We've been scoring some runs, but hitting is always an iffy thing," veteran Crater coach Chuck Dominiak said. "We've really been playing good defense, too. We've been really clean." Casey Campbell led Crater's hit parade with a 5-for-6 performance, driving in five runs and scoring four. He also smacked his first home run of the spring in the second game after pitching a four-hit shutout in the opener. He struck out eight and walked seven. Brent Foster was 4-for-7 with two RBIs and three runs. Craig Knight was 3-for-8 with a home run in each game, driving in five and scoring four runs. Jason Korthal was 4-for-5 with three RBIs and three runs, while Kenny Strate was 3-for-7 with two RBIs and two runs. MOUNTAIN VIEW 9-4, EAGLE POINT 0-1 -- At Eagle Point, Andrew Garretson fired a four-hit shutout in the opener and Jared Sanders followed up with a seven-hitter as Mountain View swept a non-conference doubleheader from Eagle Point. Garretson, a lefty, struck out eight and walked none. Eagle Point's only scoring threat came in the seventh when Mike Newmann singled and advanced to third on a single by his brother, Nick. But Garretson preserved the shutout by getting Scott Stockton to ground out to second base. Roseburg pushed a run across in the top of the seventh inning of the opener to tie it, but North Eugene's David Mulvihill, Jake Quiring and Barnes singled off Roseburg reliever Richie Charles, giving the Highlanders the win. Barnes, a lefty, limited Roseburg to four hits in the nightcap.
