Posted May. 13, 1998 at 2:00 AM Updated Dec 16, 2010 at 4:01 PM » Social News Mike Cory set the tone for Roseburg's boys, winning three events to lead the Indians to a Southern Oregon Conference track and field victory Tuesday over North Medford at Bowerman Field. Roseburg's boys outgunned North, 85-51, and the girls pulled out a 73-72 victory. Cory, defending state champion in the long jump, dominated at his specialty with a mark of 21-6. He dashed to first place in the 100 and 200-meter events with times of 11.3 and 22.8. He was also a member of the winning 400 relay team. Roseburg jumper Matt Brown took first for the Indians in both the high jump (6-3) and triple jump (40-0). North Medford's boys had strong finishes from Nick Dunn and Nick Niemeyer, who finished first and second in the 800 with times of 2:02.7 and 2:03. Niemeyer also took first in the 3,000 (9:37) and Dunn finished second in the 300 hurdles in 42.9. For the girls, Ivory Hartman's victories in the long jump (14-4) and triple jump (32-10) and her third place mark in the pole vault (8-6) were enough to give the Indians the winning edge over North. North had strong finishes from Jennifer Abbott, who dominated the 100 (12.97) and 200 (27.0); Kim Harris, who won both the 800 (2:28.6) and 3,000 (11:05); and McKenzie Morrel, who tossed the shot put 34 feet and unleashed a 99-5 throw in the discus to clinch wins.
