Prep boys basketball Eagles lose shooting eye, game EAGLE POINT -- Fresh off an impressive victory over Roseburg the night before, Eagle Point took on Mountain View of Bend Saturday afternoon. It proved a futile venture, not to mention pointless for far too long as the Eagles suffered a 61-44 non-conference setback. Eagle Point missed its first 16 field goal attempts, including 15 in the first quarter. The Eagles (7-5) also missed two free throws in the opening eight minutes as they fell behind 17-0. "The lowest point total of the season, zero points in the first quarter, what more can you say?" Eagle Point coach Keith Williams said. "Plus, we didn't play stellar defense, either. I don't know if it was fatigue or whatever, we just didn't get it done." Jake Kleker scored on a jump hook off the block early in the second period to get the goose egg off the scoreboard. But 10 minutes into the game the Eagles had just four points and the Cougars had pushed their lead to 21 points. "They were just playing straight man-to-man defense," Williams said. "We missed any kind of shot you can imagine, layins, 3-pointers and wide-open jumpers. Of course you get a little tentative and try to force some things and that gets ugly too." Dan Bauer, a 6-foot-7 post, scored 27 points to lead Mountain View. John Buda paced Eagle Point with 13 points.
