PREP ROUNDUP North boys eliminated by Barlow Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 28, 2015 at 2:00 AM Posted Oct. 28, 2015 at 2:00 AM » Social News GRESHAM — North Medford got off to a slow start and it proved costly in a 1-0 road loss to Barlow in a Class 6A boys soccer state play-in game Tuesday. “We struggled in the first half,” said North Medford coach Michael Belzberg, whose team finished the the year at 4-8-3. “They were more aggressive and physical.” Barlow (10-5) scored on a counter attack about midway through the first half. Kyle Leliefeld, a senior midfielder, got a through ball and beat North Medford goalkeeper Eric Benitez on a shot inside the near post. “(Leliefeld) turned and ripped it,” said Belzberg. The Bruins had to play the final 15 minutes a man down because of a red card but the Black Tornado could not cash in. “We put the pressure on but never quite got it going,” said Belzberg. “We had three really good looks. We should have got at least one goal.” Belzberg had praise for defenders Caleb Forte and Kole Ford. “We played with a lot of heart,” said Belzberg. “It was a tough year. We lost a lot of close games.” CASCADE CHRISTIAN 4, PACIFIC/BANDON 0 : At Roseburg, Jesse Fretz had two goals and one assist and Travis Cave one goal and two assists for Cascade Christian in the District 5 finale. Ethan Hoffman added a goal and an assist for the Challengers (10-3, 10-2 Dist. 5), who scored all their goals in the first half. Volleyball CORVALLIS 3, EAGLE POINT 0 : At Corvallis, Eagle Point grabbed the lead in the first set but errors plagued the Eagles in a Class 5A state play-in loss, 25-22, 25-14, 25-18. Eagle Point (5-15) was paced by Kylene Briggs with six kills and 20 digs and Kirsten Pariani added six kills and eight digs. Junior setter Megan Ayres distributed 20 assists. CENTRAL 3, CRATER 2 : At Central Point, Crater came up a little flat in a 27-29, 25-22, 14-25, 25-21, 15-11 Class 5A state play-in loss to Central of Independence. Destiny Fahndrich, a senior outside, paced the Comets with 19 kills and 18 digs against the Mid-Willamette Conference foe. Nicole Morse contributed 11 kills and 15 digs for Crater, which finished the season at 11-10. Crater received 45 assists from Cassidy Layton, who played despite being ill. Amanda Gardner came up with 13 digs and Rane Jensen had 11 digs and six aces. CASCADE CHRISTIAN 3, HENLEY 0 : At Klamath Falls, Class 3A Cascade Christian beat 4A Henley, 25-23, 25-11, 25-16, during nonleague action. Claire Hawkins had 13 kills, six blocks and two aces, Caroline McMahon six kills and Alyssa Brown 22 assists for the Challengers (22-2). Aubrey Kievit added 18 digs and three aces against the co-Skyline Conference champion Hornets (12-7). COQUILLE 3, ST. MARY’S 0 : Visiting Coquille steamrolled St. Mary’s, 25-10, 25-14, 25-16, in the nonleague match. St. Mary’s, the Southern Cascade League runner-up, finished the season with a 13-13 record.
