Othon Robert Campos, Jr., 41, of Medford, has been indicted on charges of aggravated murder, two counts of murder, two counts of first-degree robbery and first-degree burglary. He is believed to be in Portland or Vancouver — he has lived in the area in the past — and law enforcement agencies there have been alerted to be on the lookout for him. Jackson County District Attorney Beth Heckert said investigators believe Campos killed 62-year-old Frank Ronald Damiano at his home in the Bear Creek Mobile Home Park outside Ashland. His body was found when police conducted a welfare check at the home the afternoon of Oct. 10. Police have not said how the murder was carried out. "It was brutal for sure," said Detective Julie Denney of the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. Campos' roommate, 34-year-old Merlin Elmo Bound III, remains in the Jackson County Jail after being arrested at his Medford home Tuesday. He has been indicted on two counts of murder, two counts of first-degree robbery, and first-degree burglary. At Bound's Wednesday arraignment, family members maintained his innocence, saying Bound's "terrifying" roommate committed the murder. The DA's office has since acted on that theory. "Mr. Campos is charged with actually causing the death," Heckert said, adding that Bound was believed to have been participating in the robbery when the murder occurred. Court records show Bound has no criminal history in Jackson County. Campos has other warrants out for his arrest stemming from past theft and burglary charges. It is not believed Campos has his own vehicle, relying instead on public transportation and taxis, the sheriff's department reported. He is known to frequent pawn shops, but detectives would not comment on whether Campos is believed to have pawned any of Damiano's property. Anyone with information about Campos' whereabouts is asked to call 911. Anyone with information about the case can contact the sheriff's department at 541-774-8333 or by email at [email protected].
