At about 1:10 p.m. Tuesday, a Honda Accord sedan occupied by six high school aged kids crashed into a tree near the intersection of Hazel and North Sixth streets, according to a release issued by Central Point police. Paramedics with Mercy Flights and Jackson County Fire District 3 evaluated each of the teen passengers for injuries on scene, then transported them to nearby hospitals for “further medical evaluation and treatment,” according to police. One of the occupants was hospitalized in critical condition as of Tuesday evening. The press release did not identify the driver or any of the Honda’s passengers. The Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team — which includes resources from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, the Jackson County District Attorney’s Office, Medford and Ashland police — is in the process of investigating the crash and any factors that may have contributed to it.
