S. Bullis as he stepped on the train for Portland last night, "and while we are going slow we are, I believe, going surely and with proper support that we will soon have one of the largest lumber industries of the state within five miles of Medford." "If we get the saw mill then we will get the box factory. There is no doubt of that. I have raised my personal subscription to the saw mill to $10,000 and local business men have promised to raise $15,000 more. We are surrounded on all sides by marketable pine and fir, with a market practically without competition, and there should be a tremendous lumber industry humming along night and day in the Rogue river valley. I know the lumber business. I know local conditions. Not only should we have the $25,000 saw mill, but we should have a $500,000 lumber industry right here at our doors. "With the establishment of the first saw mill, however, we will be assured a box factory with from 150 to 200 men on the pay roll, using $30,000 worth of lumber a month, that is larger than the box factory now established at Klamath Falls, where they are hauling lumber 16 miles by horse and wagon. We have to go slowly. I am not going to lay a foot of rail until I know that rail will pay a profit. When we get the saw mill and box factory, then the copper mines will be ready for operation and then we will start out after them. All we need is patience, hard work and cooperation among ourselves." Mr. Bullis plans to visit Portland, Seattle and possibly Chicago. But that is only if the present railroad strike doesn't interfere.
