Raider players receive honors Southern Oregon University players earned Cascade Conference men's and women's player-of-the-week awards for performances last weekend. SOU wing Chris Schmerbach, a senior from Klamath Falls, was selected for the men's honor after scoring a career-high 24 points in a 67-62 win over Albertson College Friday and 18 points in a 72-59 victory over Northwest Nazarene on Saturday. It was the first time SOU has swept a series from the two Idaho schools in Cascade Conference history. Nada Janackovic, a 6-foot-1 senior center from Yugoslavia, received the women's honor for the second time in three weeks. She scored 28 points and grabbed 11 rebounds in a 78-60 win over Concordia in the opening round of the Southern Oregon Classic Friday. She added 17 points in SOU's 70-58 win over Western Baptist in the championship game Saturday. Janackovic leads the Cascade Conference in scoring with an average of 22.2 points per game. She's averaging 9.1 rebounds a game. The second-ranked SOU women (8-1) play host to the Stratford Inn Invitational on Saturday and Sunday at McNeal Pavilion.
