Known as the Camp Stew stewardship, the work would include thinning dense tree stands, removing 2½ miles of fence, decommissioning 2½ miles of roads and restoring 800 feet of degraded stream channel, officials said. About 300 acres would be treated. About 1.6 miles of road would be built to access the units, but that road would be removed after the stewardship work was completed. A public session to discuss how a stewardship project is contracted begins at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Butte Falls School District office, 720 Laurel St., Butte Falls. The meeting will provide potential contractors and others interested in contracting for the project an opportunity to ask questions. A field trip to the proposed project area will follow the meeting. A subsequent session for proposal requests from the public will be held later. Stewardship contracts focuse on collaboration with local communities while supporting local economies.
