March 14. 2015 2:00AM Spartans victorious in playoff opener MISSOULA, Mont. — Mackenzie Wood scored three goals and the Southern Oregon Spartans topped Missoula, 4-2, in Game 1 of their Western States Hockey League divisional semifinal series on Friday. The Spartans can close out the best-of-three series tonight at 7:30. Doug Gutierrez had the other goal for Southern Oregon, which trailed 2-1 in the third period before rattling off three straight scores. Winning goalkeeper Reed Kinsey made 49 saves for the Spartans, who were outshot, 51-32.
