The two women have a history of violence, according to the Jackson County District Attorney's Office. Shannon Lee Hilton, 45, of the 1100 block of Rustler Peak, pleaded guilty Monday to unlawful use of a weapon and fourth-degree assault in Jackson County Circuit Court. A second-degree assault charge — which carries a Measure 11 mandatory minimum sentence of five years and 10 months in prison upon conviction — was dismissed in a plea agreement. Hilton used a police-style baton to cause physical injury to Shannon Irene Warren, 44, in December 2014, according to court documents. Warren was taken to Providence Medford Medical Center with broken ribs and required a chest tube as a result of the injuries. She also received stitches for a large cut on her arm, according to Deputy District Attorney Lacie Nelson. Hilton admitted to using the baton against Warren, but said she did it in self-defense, Nelson said. "There is violence throughout this relationship," she said. The $27,409 in restitution will go toward Warren's hospital bills. Hilton has 30 days to contest the restitution figure that was imposed by the court, Nelson said. Defense attorney Carl Caplan said in court Hilton feels terrible about the incident and alcohol was a factor. Hilton has since become involved with Alcoholics Anonymous, he said. Meanwhile, Warren has a pre-trial conference set for May 11 in a case alleging reckless driving and driving under the influence of intoxicants, court records show. In January 2014, police responded to a domestic violence incident involving the two women in which Hilton appeared to suffer a broken nose. Hilton said Warren head-butted her in the face, but another witness said Hilton had head-butted Warren, according to a police affidavit. Warren had bruises on her arms, back and head and said Hilton had hit her 15 to 20 times with a frying pan. Hilton said she struck Warren with the frying pan in self defense because Warren wouldn't stop punching her, the affidavit said. Court records show Warren was arrested following the incident but charges including fourth-degree assault and harassment were dismissed after she completed terms of negotiations, including attending an "Alternatives to Violence" class.
