Plane down Rescue crews check mountains near Pinehurst for missing craft Jackson County search and rescue personnel were searching the area around Pinehurst late Sunday for an airplane that was reported down. The Ashland Fire Department dispatched an ambulance to the area at around 8 p.m. after receiving a call that a privately owned single engine aircraft had gone down. Oregon State Police and emergency units from Klamath County also were dispatched to look for the airplane, said Ken Kennedy, a dispatch supervisor for the Oregon State Police. Pinehurst is 23 miles east of Ashland on Highway 66 near the Cascade summit. Kennedy said federal aviation officials in Seattle called Jackson County emergency management agencies Sunday after they lost contact with the aircraft. "We're fairly sure there is a plane down," Kennedy said, but he said it was possible the pilot had found a place to land. "It's not very nice up there right now," Kennedy said at 11 p.m. "It's spitting snow."
