A North Carolina man is accused of stabbing three men and leaving them at the side of Lake of the Woods Highway. Kevin Juwan Reed, 35, of Winston-Salem, faces multiple felony assault charges alleging he stabbed three North Carolina men Monday afternoon — including injuries that required one man be airlifted to Portland. At 1:27 p.m. Monday, three men with stab wounds were reported near mile marker 24, according to a press release issued by Oregon State Police. The stabbing victims, who were all rushed via Mercy Flights to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford, have been identified as Marcus Earl Taylor, 34, Antonie Eugene Kirby, 32, and Jemario Deronte Richardson, 30, all from Winston-Salem. Within 45 minutes of the first 911 report, police found Reed 6 miles away from the scene, near milepost 30 on Highway 140, wearing a T-shirt, jeans and no shoes, according to Oregon State Police. A vehicle involved, described as a white Dodge Caravan with North Carolina plates, was found more than 20 miles away at milepost 4. Taylor suffered life-threatening injuries in the knife attack and was airlifted to Oregon Health Sciences University hospital in Portland. Taylor was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon. Kirby and Richardson were treated for their injuries at the hospital in Medford and were released. OSP Capt. Tim Fox said he did not know where on the body the victims were stabbed, or what type of knife was used. Reed was slated to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Jackson County Circuit Court on one felony count of first-degree assault and three felony counts of second-degree assault. First-degree assault carries a mandatory-minimum prison sentence of 7 years, 6 months under Oregon’s Measure 11 sentencing law. Second-degree assault carries a mandatory 5 years, 10 months in prison. Reed was being held in the Jackson County Jail on $400,000 bail. Police say they’re still piecing together what happened.
