The Raiders outscored the Pioneers 57-1 in the opening half and finished with the school’s third-highest game outcome in program history. The 92-point final margin surpassed the old record established on Nov. 18, 1994 when SOU topped Mills College 128-39. The outcome was also the school’s stingiest defensive effort ever, one point better than in a 94-21 romp over Western Baptist on Nov. 30, 1991. Six Raider players finished in double-digits for scoring headed by senior forward Kara Magee-Arick’s 24. SOU outrebounded PUC (0-3) 49-22 and shot 54-percent for the game (50 of 92) while holding the Pios to a 4-for-27 output (15 percent). Men’s Basketball OREGON TECH 73, SOUTHERN OREGON 59 — At Ashland, sixth-ranked Oregon Institute of Technology added to Southern Oregon University’s early season woes by handing the Raiders a non-conference setback at McNeal Pavilion. The Owls won their ninth straight contest — the school’s best start since 1996-97 — and extended a Raider losing skid to four straight by limiting SOU (1-5) to a season-low 32-percent from the field (23 of 72). Junior guard Florian Houguet nailed seven of nine shots for a game-high 19 points, while junior forward Kevin Baker added 17 for OIT, which won for just the second time on the Raider home court in eight visits since 1998. The Klamath Falls school scored the first five points and fashioned a 20-6 margin 10 minutes into the fray after Southern Oregon missed 17 of its first 19 shots. Among the few bright spots for SOU were a 16-point performance by senior guard Zac Olson, and a 4-for-4, nine-point performance by freshman forward Gabe Burchfiel in a reserve role. OIT, which also defeated SOU 96-77 in Klamath Falls on Nov. 10, took its largest lead at 29 (65-36) with 10 minutes remaining, but back-to-back inside shots by Burchfiel and a Jordan France tip- in helped cut the margin to 16 at the 1:24 mark. Southern won the rebounding wars 44-43, including eight from freshman Jared Abell and seven from Olson.
