Ashland debaters win state Team brings home 10th title in 12 years The Ashland High School speech and debate team brought home the state championship Saturday - its third straight victory and its 10th in 12 years. The competition was held at the University of Oregon. Ashland ranked first in the competition with 82 points, followed by Sam Barlow High School of Gresham in second place with 72 points and Roseburg third with 57 points. Ashland High School speech and debate coach John Tredway said his team's victory was tougher than in past years. "I've never seen our kids work harder in trying to find the right chemistry for a team title," Tredway said. "We knew that Barlow had a real chance and our seniors decided some time ago to devote some time to achieving this outcome. This was a memorable win and perhaps the most satisfying of the last ten."
