Police warn of thief targeting wedding rings Surveillance photo of jewelry thief released by Medford police. Tuesday Oct 24, 2017 at 2:59 PM Oct 24, 2017 at 5:07 PM Medford police are looking for a thief who has targeted Rogue Valley women selling wedding rings on Craigslist.  Police said the thief stole rings Oct. 16 from two separate women in Medford and Ashland after making contact with them through Craigslist. After he contacted the victims, he arranged to meet them at a local jewelry store to confirm the quality of the diamond, according to a post on the Medford police Facebook page. The suspect then "casually walked out" with the victim while holding the ring, because the stores don't allow transactions to occur inside the store. Once outside, the suspect fled on foot. The victim in Medford, who met the thief at the Fred Meyer north store, reportedly lost a $5,700 ring. Police received a similar report in Ashland about an hour later at an undisclosed jewelry store. Police said it's possible the suspect "was passing through town." "If nothing else, we hope this serves as an educational piece so you do not become a victim," the police Facebook post said. The suspect wore dark clothing and a cap in surveillance images released by Medford police.
