John Martin Roos, 61, was arrested at his residence off Poplar Drive by Medford police and FBI agents who said they found several pipe bombs there. Roos stated in Facebook postings as recently as April 21 that the FBI and Secret Service visited him in March to discuss his threats to shoot Obama. In an April 21 post, Roos claimed he berated the federal agents, whom he earlier called "America's gestapo," for protecting Obama, whom he called "this vile muslim traitor who is destroying everything he can in America and the constitution." "I guess you can't tell the world you hate Obama so much you will shoot him," Roos also wrote in an April 11 post. "Silly me. Oh well now you guys get the kinder softer John not LOL." In other posts, he described Obama as "barely worth the cost of the bullet" for not attending former First Lady Nancy Reagan's funeral, made disparaging remarks about First Lady Michelle Obama and pledged violence against Muslims as well as FBI agents. In a Jan. 31 Facebook post, Roos berated the FBI over the arrest of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupiers, writing, "We will snipe them with hunting rifles everywhere." In a Dec. 23 post, Roos wrote that he wanted to incite "American Patriots" to take action against Obama and stop talking about it on Facebook. "With 500,000 plus hunters ( a minimum) in America, my question is why are we still listening to a traitor speak on TV?" Roos posted. "There are certainly enough good shots in America to get the job done. You say you want a revolution Lets Roll." The FBI this evening confirmed that Roos was arrested for threatening Obama but did not describe the threats in a news release. The FBI said Roos was one of two men living in the Poplar Village apartment and Roos' male roommate was home when police and agents serviced a search warrant there about noon today. The roommate was briefly detained while agents secured the scene and was then released, the FBI said. The roommate, who was not identified, was not arrested, authorities said. The Oregon State Police bomb squad responded and rendered the devices safe, according to the FBI, which did not elaborate. Agents found Roos at another unidentified location in Medford shortly after the search warrant was served and arrested him, according to the FBI. Roos was lodged without bail in the Jackson County Jail. No court appearance in U.S. District Court in Medford was set. Roos has a minor criminal history in Jackson County, with convictions of eluding a police officer and driving under the influence of intoxicants in 2007 and another DUII in 2001, court records show.
