On the slope again A skier makes his way down the Windsor chairline through fresh powder Friday morning. [Mail Tribune / Andy Atkinson] Friday Feb 23, 2018 at 4:33 PM Feb 23, 2018 at 4:38 PM Snowboarders and skiers took advantage of a glorious break in storms to celebrate the reopening of Mount Ashland Friday. The ski area had to close Feb. 5 after eight days of operation because of a dry spell, but 19 inches of new snow the past seven days was enough to open the Sonnet, Comer and Windsor lifts. A new storm is predicted overnight, with up to 5 inches expected in some areas. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Rogue Valley and surrounding hills through 4 p.m. Saturday, warning of difficult travel in higher elevations in Jackson, Josephine, Douglas, Coos and Curry counties.
