CRIME NEWS OSP still looking for tips in 2013 fatal hit and run near Cave Junction By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Oct. 30, 2014 @ 1:52 pm By Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune Posted Oct. 30, 2014 @ 1:52 pm » Social News CAVE JUNCTION — A year has passed since a vehicle struck two men fighting on Highway 199 just outside of Cave Junction and left them to die, and Oregon State Police are still asking for the public's help in tracking down a suspect. The incident happened at 12:15 a.m. Oct. 30. OSP received word that two people had been struck by a vehicle in the highway's 27000 block near milepost 30, two miles south of Cave Junction. Emergency responders flocked to the scene and found 21-year-old Jarred Houston and 41-year-old Robert Calvin, both of Cave Junction, dead at the scene. An investigation revealed that Houston had stopped his vehicle on the highway's shoulder, possibly because of a mechanical issue. Calvin, who was walking past with a woman, got into an argument with Houston for an unknown reason. The argument turned physical, and as the men fought in the highway's southbound lane, a light-colored, possibly beige or tan, 1980s single cab Toyota pickup struck them both. The truck continued without stopping. Police have said it sustained front-end damage in the crash. OSP's Criminal Investigations and Patrol Services divisions both have invested hundreds of hours into the investigation, OSP reported. Crime Stoppers of Southern Oregon is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest or the filing of charges. Families of the men who died are offering an additional reward of $5,000 . Anyone with information on the case should contact OSP's Southern Command Center dispatch number at 541-776-6111.  Reach reporter Ryan Pfeil at 541-776-4468 or [email protected] .
